In Humboldt County we are blessed with some of the best running weather in the country. Other than a very rare hard rain we can train any day of the year.

Mike Wood has run over two dozen ultramarathons and has participated in two of the world’s toughest races – The Barkley and Nolan’s 14. He holds Fastest Known Time (FKT) records for the northern loop of the Lost Cost Trail (2017), 50K and marathon distances on Trinidad head (2018) and a speed climb of Popocateptl (1993, 17,887’). He has made two attempts for the world speed record on the John Muir Trail. He was ranked #2 in the state of Texas for the Texas Trilogy ultrarunning series (2003-2004 season). He has been a nationally ranked ultrarunner (100-mile category). He has been certified both as an EMT and as a Swift Water Rescue Technician and is a former mountain guide.
